Apple negotiates with local Indian giants to produce iPhone camera components: may establish a partnership within a few months

Apple is actively in talks with two Indian giants, Murugapa Group and Titan, a subsidiary of Tata Group, with the aim of assembling and producing sub components for iPhone camera modules. It is reported that Apple is expected to confirm and announce this important partnership within five to six months. As one of the core components of iPhone, the quality and performance of the camera module are crucial for the overall user experience. Although Apple has successfully assembled multiple iPhones in India, it has not been able to find a local camera module supplier. The cooperation negotiations with Murugapa Group and Titan Company undoubtedly took a crucial step for Apple to build a complete supply chain in India. Titan is renowned for its precision manufacturing capabilities in watches and jewelry components, while Murugapa Group is a comprehensive enterprise with businesses covering multiple fields such as engineering, financial services, and chemical engineering. The strength and experience of these two major groups undoubtedly provide strong support for Apple’s further development in the Indian market. According to sources, up to 14% of iPhones are currently assembled and produced in India, accounting for approximately one seventh of Apple’s global production. As cooperation with local Indian companies deepens, Apple is expected to achieve its goal of transferring at least half of its supply chain to India and increasing the local added value of its suppliers by nearly 50% over the next three years. Since the Indian government launched the smartphone production linkage incentive plan in August 2021, the Apple ecosystem has become a major force driving the development of the Indian job market. According to an Indian official, the apple ecosystem has directly or indirectly created over 400000 jobs in the past 32 months, making a significant contribution to the local economy. In addition, Apple has directly employed nearly 3000 employees in India and created over 1 million job opportunities through its iOS application development ecosystem. These measures not only strengthen Apple’s position in the Indian market, but also further promote the development and prosperity of the local economy.
