It is expected that by 2026, the shipment volume of OLED panels for Chinese smartphone companies will exceed that of Korean companies

According to WitDisplay, it is expected that by 2026, the shipment volume of OLED panels for smartphones by Chinese companies will exceed that of Korean companies. UBI Research CEO Lee Choong hoon stated at the “Old Korea” conference held at K Hotel in Seoul on March 28, during his “OLED and XR Industry Forecast,” that “this year, South Korea’s smartphone OLED shipments are 442 million pieces (54.9%), while China’s are 363 million pieces (45.1%). However, China will account for 53.4% of shipments in 2026, surpassing South Korea.” It is expected that the demand for OLED in smartphones will grow rapidly in the future. Lee Choong hoon said, “By 2028, the demand for smartphones will reach 1.3 billion units, and OLED will account for 70% of all smartphones. The supply-demand gap will continue to narrow.” He predicts that Korean display companies will benefit from Apple’s OLED deployment. He said, “Apple is demanding that China purchase high-performance OLEDs at low prices, but currently only Korean companies can supply panels that meet Apple’s needs. Korean companies are rapidly leading the Apple (product) market and new markets that will open up in the future.” Lee Choong hoon also analyzed that Chinese companies will shift from the LCD industry to the OLED industry. He emphasized that “Chinese companies will show an OLED conversion trend in their own laptop, monitor, and television markets, and the Chinese display industry itself is rapidly following the pace of South Korea.”.
