On April 9th, market research firm IDC recently released a tracking report, stating that after two years of decline, the global traditional personal computer market resumed growth in the first quarter of 2024, with shipments reaching 59.8 million units, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%. IDC believes that one of the reasons for the resumption of growth is the low starting point. In the first quarter of 2023, the global PC market fell by 28.7%, which is the lowest point in the history of personal computers. In addition, global personal computer shipments have finally returned to pre pandemic levels, with shipments in the first quarter of 2024 remaining largely unchanged from 60.5 million units in the first quarter of 2019. The shipment volume of personal computers in most regions has begun to recover, driving growth in the Americas as well as Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). However, the report points out that the demand in the Chinese market is still weak, but with the gradual landing of AI PCs this year and updated demand from commercial buyers, it is estimated that there will also be a recovery situation in 2024. Lenovo segmented into brands and once again ranked first among the top five companies, with a shipment volume of 13.7 million units, an increase of 7.8% year-on-year compared to 12.7 million units in the first quarter of 2023, and a market share of 23.0%, an increase of 1.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year. HP is followed by HP, with a shipment volume of 12 million units, an increase of 0.2% year-on-year compared to the 12 million units in the first quarter of 2023, and a market share of 20.1%, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Dell’s shipment volume was 9.3 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 2.2% compared to 9.5 million units in the first quarter of 2023, while its market share was 15.5%, a decrease of 0.6 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Apple’s shipment volume was 4.8 million units, an increase of 14.6% year-on-year compared to 4.2 million units in the first quarter of 2023, and its market share was 8.1%, an increase of 1.0 percentage point compared to the same period last year. Acer and Asus have basically the same shipment volume, with a share difference of less than 0.1%, so they are tied for fifth place.
